SouthWold Pier (E.1)

Originally built in 1900, and refurbished in 2001 Southwold Pier is  623 feet. This length allows the pier to accommodate visits by Britain’s only surviving sea-going steam passenger ship, the PS Waverley paddle steamer.

St Mary’s Lighthouse (NE.3)

Built in 1898, St Mary’s Lighthouse is on the tiny St. Mary’s Island just north of Whitely Bay. The small rocky tidal Island is linked to the mainland by a short concrete causeway which is submerged at periods of High tide.

The River Dee, Chester (CHEST.2)

The River Dee has it’s source in the mountains of Snowdonia, before passing through Chester. This view looks across over the Weir, which was originally designed to power the medieval mills, which have since been demolished.

Scarborough North Bay (YC.5)

Scarborough Castle has experienced ten centuries of history, and the current ruins are managed by English Heritage. This promontory pointing eastward separates the wilder exposed North Bay & the sheltered South Bay.

Humber Bridge (YC.17)

The impressive Humber Bridge, near Kingston upon Hull, England, is the fifth-largest single-span suspension bridge in the world. It spans the Humber between Barton-upon-Humber on the south bank and Hessle on the north bank, connecting the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

The Deep (YC.23)

The Deep is a large underwater aquarium situated at Sammy’s Point, at the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber estuary in Hull, England. It opened in March 2002. Billed as ‘the world’s only submarium’ housed in an iconic structure designed by Sir Terry Farrell.

Tidal Barrier (YC.24)

The Hull Tidal Surge Barrier is at the point where the River Hull joins the Humber estuary and is lowered at times when unusually high tides are expected. It is used between 8 and 12 times per year and protects the homes of approximately 10,000 people from flooding.

Scarborough Spa (YC.22)

The Spa complex was originally built around the source of Scarborough’s spa waters discovered in the 17th Century. Later thousands of visitors flocked to benefit from their supposed medicinal qualities and resulted in the development of Scarborough as a resort town.

Saltburn Pier (NEC.1)

The 1,500 ft pier opened in 1869. In 1875 a gale removed 300 ft, further damage by ships and demolition by the Department of the Environment has resulted in a current length of 681 ft.
The Cliff Lift links the pier to the town above was built in 1894 and remains the worlds oldest water-balnced cliff railway

Bamburgh Castle (NE.4)

Bamburgh Castle is an imposing Grade 1 listed building on the Northumberland Coast 45 metres above sea level is one of the largest inhabited castles in the country. It was home to the Kings of Northumbria.

Llandudno Pier (WC.7)

Jutting out into Llandudno Bay, the original pier was opened in 1858, The present Pier was opened in 1877 and is the largest Pier in Wales.

Menai Bridge (WC.9)

The Menai Suspension Bridge was built in 1826 by Thomas Telford, and is the shortest crossing of the Menai Strait, linking Bangor on Mainland Wales to the Island of Anglesey. It was one of the first modern suspension bridges in the world.

Conway Castle (WC.10)

Conway Castle is a Medieval Castle on the North Coast of Wales. It was built between 1283-1299 on a rock promontory. The castle is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and part of the World Heritage Site.

Beverley Minster from the Beck (Y0.1)

Scarborough Lights (YC.26)

Scarborough’s lighthouse stands on Vincent’s Pier, built in the 18th century and named after its engineer, William Vincent. Built sometime between 1801 and 1806, It was rebuilt in 1931. The lighthouse is no longer a 24 hour manned lighthouse but it remains a great landmark and makes for an interesting walk around it perimeter when visiting Vincents Pier.

M62, Goole (YO.2)

I’ve been driving across the M62 Ouse bridge for many years when heading South, At 1.6km long and 30 metres above the surrounding countryside This bridge is an iconic structure. The last few years has seen an increase in the amount of polythene used to cover to cover the crops
